Winger Vaclav Cerny is reportedly nearing the Besiktas exit door amid interest from Rangers.

Record Sport understands the Ibrox club have been exploring the possibility of striking a deal with Besiktas for the 28-year-old.

It's understood the former Czech International is open to the prospect of a return to Ibrox after dropping down the pecking order, after Belgian international Leandro Trossard put pen to paper on a £17m switch from Arsenal.

The wide man looks set to fall further down the pecking order with the Istanbul giants closing in on a mega deal for Mo Salah following his departure from Liverpool.

And Star Gazetesireport that Cerny will be sacrificed to clear space for the superstar to arrive, and is expected to be "close" to a departure following talks with boss Vincenzo Italiano.

Club bosses reportedly want to sell the former Ibrox attacker "to both generate revenue and reduce the number of foreign players" - to fall in line with the Super Lig quota for the new season.

It is claimed that a price tag of between €8million and €10million has been communicated to potential suitors.

It is noted there "there are no official offers" on the table at this stage for Cerny - but a move is expected to escalate in the coming days with Salah inching closer to a deal.

The forward had initially hoped to remain in Scotland after enjoying a season-long loan deal from German outfit Wolfsburg - but would move to Turkey in a €6million move last summer instead after sporting director Kevin Thelwell and sacked boss Russell Martin drew up a list of alternative targets.

Record Sport understands Rangers chiefs now regard that decision as one of many missteps which were made in the transfer market over the last 12 months.

Earlier this month the club made enquiries behind the scenes to discover how costly it would be to correct in the current window - but the winger's £45k-a-week wages could prove to be a stumbling block.
