And while the team that takes to the field against Sunderland will look vastly different to the one that will start the Premier League opener at Newcastle United on August 23, the preparations for that big St James' Park showdown effectively start tonight.
The Reds have taken an initial 31-man squad to America but that includes a number of injured players and excludes the eight players who represented their countries at the World Cup.
So expect Liverpool to have a distinctly youthful look a times in the first of the three matches they will play Stateside.
