James Worthy shares blunt take on LeBron James statue, Lakers legacy

James Worthy isn't certain LeBron James will receive a Lakers statue, but the Hall of Famer has no doubt he left a lasting legacy with the franchise.

LeBron James authored a remarkable chapter in the Los Angeles Lakers' history, but James Worthy isn't completely sure if the NBA superstar can get his very own statue from the franchise.

Height 206 cm

Weight 113 kg

Birth place Akron, United States of America

The Lakers legend addressed James' candidacy to get a statue in LA in a recent interview with TMZ.

"I don't know about that, it's a long period of time you have to be here. Kobe was here his entire career. Magic, Kareem, so that's debatable. But he'll get a statue without question in maybe two cities," Worthy said.

"But you never know about LA. I don't know how the organization is gonna feel about his career. He's broken records. He's done a lot, so we'll see at the end of his career if that's feasible."

Magic Johnson, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Elgin Baylor and Kobe Bryant (who has two separate monuments with his daughter Gianna) are the only Lakers legends who have been honored with bronze statues outside Crypto.com Arena.

James Worthy praises LeBron James Lakers legacy

As far as the impact LeBron James left on both Los Angeles and the Lakers franchise, James Worthy has no doubts about his legacy.

Before James' arrival in 2018, the Lakers suffered from their most brutal stretch in the franchise's history. The final years of Kobe Bryant went to waste, and the team failed to compete as an awful team.

Despite the fact that the LeBron era went through ups and downs, the Lakers still earned themselves an NBA championship in 2020 under the leadership of the four-time MVP.

“ I only think about what we were like before LeBron came. It was misery. It was misery," Worthy argued. "We weren’t getting in the playoffs, we weren’t winning. We were trading a lot of players away. So, you know, for what he brought to us, he’s a huge draw globally.

"We didn’t win the championship, it was in the bubble, however. But, you know what look, for what he did for LA while he was here, I don’t think you can argue."
