In The TK Show, Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard revealed that team owner Joe Lacob is now looking forward to building a new Warriors team in the post-Curry era.
"What Lacob wants to do and this might get Warriors' fans mad, but he wants to build the next team after Steph Curry," the longtime Bay Area sports chronicler said. "I don't know how possible that is, but Lacob has a very keen interest in 'This organization is going to show what it can do with Steph Curry and then after Steph Curry.'
"I don't think it's going to be as good myself, but that's what he wants to do."
Warriors eyeing future without Stephen Curry
After failing to land LeBron James as the NBA superstar opted to pick the Philadelphia 76ers as his next NBA team, the Golden State Warriors find themselves facing uncertainty on what might be next to keep their relevance in the league alive.
The Dubs seized this year's offseason by prioritizing retaining key pieces from last year, bringing back Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, De'Anthony Melton and Charles Bassey. They also drafted Yaxel Lendeborg with the No. 11 pick of the draft.
Yet in the end, despite the hype and anticipation upon being linked to several stars like James, Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Warriors have failed to land any major splashes.
As a result, the Warriors' future remains uncertain, especially with Stephen Curry becoming extension-eligible in late August. While recent reports suggest Golden State is prepared to offer its franchise superstar the extension he seeks, the team's inability to make a major move has cast doubt on its championship chances.
Their hopes of reviving their dynasty now appear to be slipping away.
Golden State is facing immense pressure to bounce back next 2026-27 NBA season after last year's frustrating run. If they fall short once again, the Stephen Curry era could finally be nearing its end.
