View: Everton have clear problem with £13m man, it was on show for all to see vs Bolton

Charly Alcaraz playing for Everton

There have been plenty of questions surrounding the Argentine since his move from Flamengo was made permanent last summer.

He was a breath of fresh air when he came through the doors on loan as he helped turn the tide at Goodison.

It was a no-brainer for him to stick around on Merseyside as part of a £13million deal.

Things just haven't worked out as David Moyes hasn't quite worked out how to utilise him.

Issues were once again on show for Alcaraz as Everton continued their pre-season preparations.

Why did Charly Alcaraz struggle vs Bolton?

For a Premier League side to travel to a newly promoted Championship side, you would expect a win.

There were certain positive elements to take away from the outing with Thierno Barry and Jarrad Branthwaite catching the eye.

The same can be said about Alcaraz, but for all the wrong reasons.

He once again failed to show his best as he just looked out of place.

There is no clear position that suits him and wherever he plays, just doesn't work.

That was the problem last season and could soon follow him into the upcoming campaign.

The midfielder was poor for that very reason against Bolton, but he wasn't alone in that.

Dwight McNeil continues Everton problems

There is a feeling that those on the edge of the starting XI in L3 aren't good enough.

That proved to be the issue last year as the Toffees just fell at the final hurdle in their efforts to secure European qualification.

Alcaraz played his part in that and the same can be said about McNeil.

They both continued that problem against Bolton, with the Englishman failing to show any sort of quality on the flank.

He didn't show to Moyes why he deserves to start moving into the new campaign, so it could be time to bring in new attacking options.
