Real Madrid have been told that selling Vinicius Jr can allow them to reset the dressing room with PSG's success showcasing how a team ethic will outdo quality individuals.
The Brazilian has become the subject of one of the summer's biggest transfer stories to date with Arsenal weighing up a move. No bid has yet been tabled, but internally they are keen on the forward, whose contract continues to wind down.
Vinicius has been at Real since 2018 and become a leading light, helping them twice win the Champions League. He's on mammoth wages and is seeking parity with Kylian Mbappe, but negotiations are being done off the back of a second successive trophyless season at the Bernabeu.
Real's fortunes have nosedived and Emmanuel Petit believes ridding of one of their biggest names could allow them to change the culture - citing the success PSG have enjoyed since losing Mbappe and adopting a more collective approach.
He told the Evening Standard: “Something has to be rebuilt in Madrid. It started with the manager in the dressing room, but also with the players on the pitch. You cannot rely all the time on the brilliance of Mbappé or Vinícius, they have to stop that.
“Spain and PSG have sent strong messages over the last two seasons that the team matters. It's not based on the individual, it's about the team's unity. You can have the best players in some positions, but it doesn't mean you're going to win the games and the competition.
“Mourinho wants to get strong and reliable players, and I'm pretty sure he's putting pressure on Florentino to spend the money wisely. I know some big players are targets. If they can do that, it could be a very good season for Mourinho and for Madrid.”
