LeBron James shocked the sporting world once again, including Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Cooper DeJean. The NBA All-Time leading scorer will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers for his 24th season.
James announced at the start of free agency that he won’t be returning to the Los Angeles Lakers. Many athletes and personalities eventuallymade their pitch for him to come and join their team. This included DeJean and teammate Saquon Barkley.
The reported frontrunners were the Sixers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 22-time NBA All-Star eventually decided to join the Sixers. Of course, the city and its fans rejoiced at their new star.

Philadelphia Eagles’ Cooper DeJean is hyped about LeBron James’ decision
The Sixers were already contenders in the East when they traded for Jaylen Brown. They solidified their status as a threat to the defending champions after the three-time Olympic gold medalist made his decision.
DeJean expressed his excitement over James’ decision via a series of Instagram stories. The Super Bowl LIX champion reshared the announcement post of the newest Sixer.
“Philyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy LFGGGGGG,” the 2025 Pro Bowlersaid in the caption.
The 2025 First-Team All-Prothen reshared James’ post announcing that he will be joining the Sixers.
The Eagles also showed their excitement about another legend joining a Philadelphia team. They posted a photo of James in an Eagles jersey with no caption.
James will be joining Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecomb, Joel Embiid and the newest Sixer, Brown, in Philadelphia.
It will still be a while before we see the new-look Sixers take the floor together. Many fans are excited to see how the four-time champion will help the squad get back to the promised land.
The Sixers now have two former NBA MVPs, two former NBA Finals MVPs and a young backcourt duo. If healthy, they have a solid chance to compete for the Larry O’Brien trophy.
DeJean and the Eagles, on the other hand, are also in the hunt for another Super Bowl title. Their season ended in disappointment last year, and they are eager to get to the top again in 2026.
