Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of Facebook, is reportedly among those to have been approached to join the consortium that is in talks to buy a large minority stake in Liverpool FC.
According to Sky News, Saverin is the latest wealthy individual to be considered as part of the group hoping to secure a 30 per cent stake in the Anfield side.
If Saverin does opt to get involved and the deal goes through, he will join the former QPR owner Amit Bhatia and — potentially — Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder. It has been speculated that FSG, by selling a smaller stake, is paving the way for a full sale down the line.
Saverin, 44, was previously interested in investing in the Premier League. He was part of one consortium assembled when Chelsea was for sale in 2022 following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
He made his money alongside Mark Zuckerberg and several others who launched the social media platform Facebook in 2004. It has since become part of a $1.5trn technology behemoth.
Now, Saverin jointly runs B Capital Group, which is a US-based venture capital group. In recent years, it has backed dozens of AI, healthcare and financial start-ups.

In a summer of change for Liverpool, in which Fenway Sports Group's (FSG's) CEO of football, Michael Edwards, has already moved on, the news that a group could invest in the Reds has generated plenty of intrigue.
Bezos has never looked at buying a Premier League club before, but he was keen on the NFL franchises the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Commanders, even if those deals were never completed.
Amazon's streaming platform had live UK rights for 20 Premier League games each season for six seasons until the end of last year. It also shows the Champions League in several European countries and the NFL in the US.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
In 2023, FSG sold three per cent of Liverpool to the US private equity firm, Dynasty Equity.

But this move, should it progress, would be much more substantial and would value the Reds at around $4.5BN, which is higher than Manchester United when Jim Ratcliffe invested in the Old Trafford side.
It is possible that Bezos and Saverin may hold an interest in Liverpool because of its global popularity. Playing in the Premier League also adds to the appeal.
In recent years, FSG has been joined in the English game by fellow Americans such as Chelsea's Todd Boehly, while Wrexham, now in the Championship and taking on Liverpool in a friendly in the States next week, is also US-owned.
