A consortium looking to invest in Liverpool FC has reportedly approached one of Facebook's co-founders, billionaire Eduardo Saverin, to buy a stake in the football club. Sky News claims Saverin, who has a reported wealth of £24.3bn, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, was approached by the group several weeks ago.
The Reds are reportedly open to selling a further stake in the club, which would see the interested party become the second-largest shareholder at Anfield.
The 44-year-old was part of a consortium that tried to buy Chelsea during the 2022 auction of the Premier League club, following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent sanctions put on then-owner Roman Abramovich,
Brazilian entrepreneur Saverin, along with Mark Zuckerberg, helped launch Facebook in 2004 and was part of the £1.1 trillion technology behemoth Meta Platforms.
He now runs B Capital Group, a US-based venture capital group which has given financial support to dozens of AI, healthcare and financial start-ups.
The news follows on from reports linking Amazon chief Jeff Bezos with an investment deal at the club.
The report says it's unclear whether Saverin is still in talks with the club and that some sources have warned he may not be part of the investor group.

The syndicate looking to invest in Liverpool is being led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of billionaire steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal.
It's claimed Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are looking to sell 30 per cent of the club, which they've had control over since 2010.
Other parties are also involved in the deal, which, if it goes through, would only highlight the growth and success Liverpool have had under FSG, with the club valued at more than £4.7bn.
A statement from FSG confirmed the interest in the club and read: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
The last time a stake in the club changed hands was back in 2023, with Dynasty Equity purchasing a small interest, resulting in a valuation of the club at more than £3.3bn.
