A few days ago, Dorde Petrinjac and Bojan Brezovac of Mozzart Sport reported that Serbia’s Partizan Belgrade was in advanced contract talks with free agent wing Wendell Moore Jr. That same report indicated that another EuroLeague team, Hapoel Tel Aviv, was interested in Moore too (hat tip to Stefan Acevski of Eurohoops).
Although at least one of those clubs reportedly offered a more lucrative deal, Luka Pavlovic of Basketball Sphere hears from sources that Moore is “currently leaning toward” signing with BC Roma SPQR, whose co-owners include longtime former Mavericks GM Donnie Nelson and Lakers superstar Luka Doncic.
According to Pavlovic, Nelson has played a “key role” in recruiting Moore, who has spent the past four years in the NBA after being selected 26th overall in the 2022 draft. Moore is believed to be intrigued by the “long-term direction” of the Italian club, which will compete in Italy’s top domestic league (Serie A) and the EuroCup in 2026/27.
Roma SPQR, which has targeted multiple former (and one current) NBA coaches for its head coaching job, is hoping to earn a spot in the NBA’s European league, which is expected to launch in 2027/28.
Moore, who played three years of college basketball at Duke prior to being drafted, has made 96 total appearances in the NBA, averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per game.
Moore spent the majority of the 2025/26 season on a two-way contract with the Pistons, which marked his second stint in Detroit. He previously played for Minnesota and Charlotte.
The 24-year-old guard/forward only played in six games for the Pistons last season, but he had a significant role at the G League level with the Motor City Cruise. In 32 total games with the Cruise, Moore averaged 19.6 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 3.3 APG and 1.7 SPG on .509/.388/.808 shooting splits.
