Hapoel Tel Aviv is targeting Maxi Kleber as the team looks to bolster its frontcourt, according to Moshe Barda of Israeli outlet ONE (story in Hebrew).
Kleber, a 6’10” forward/center from Germany, has spent the last nine years in the NBA playing for the Mavericks and Lakers. The 34-year-old was a valuable role player in his prime, but injuries have sapped his athleticism and mobility and he has struggled with his outside shot the past two seasons.
Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews reported at the end of June that Kleber was “actively” exploring EuroLeague opportunities and was expected to continue his career overseas.
Here’s more from across the pond:
Luca Vildoza, who had a seven-game stint with Milwaukee in 2021/22, has signed a two-year contract with KK Partizan, the Serbian EuroLeague team announced (link to press release). The 6’3″ point guard has played for a handful of EuroLeague teams since his brief tenure with the Bucks, suiting up for Crvena zvezda, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and — most recently — Virtus Bologna.
Former NBA big man Kenneth Lofton Jr. has signed a contract with Hapoel Jerusalem in Israel, the team announced in a press release. Lofton, who played for three different teams in his two seasons in the league, has spent the past two years in China with the Shanghai Sharks. He won the CBA’s MVP award for the 2024/25 season and the Sharks won the championship in ’25/26.
Hapoel Jerusalem, which competes in the EuroCup and Israel’s top domestic league, also signed ex-NBA forward/center Devontae Cacok earlier this month, per the team. The 29-year-old, who spent parts of three seasons in the NBA from 2019-22, played in Spain last season.
