The Andoni Iraola era is off to a winning start, but questions are only growing about Liverpool’s options amid what has been a quiet summer in the transfer window.

The Reds have still only made one new signing since the window opened, and it’ll still be a while before fans get to see Victor Munoz in action. Jeremy Jacquet is a new addition after a deal was agreed back in January, but more action is needed at the back.

Joe Gomez’s injury 10 minutes into Saturday’s opening friendly underlined just how much work still needs to be done. The search for Mohamed Salah’s replacement remains the priority though, with yet more twists emerging over the weekend.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Bradley Barcola (PSG)

Paris Saint-Germain is prepared to sell Bradley Barcola, but values the winger at a massive $193 million (€170M), according to Ben Jacobs.

The French champions are said to be using Morgan Rogers and Elliot Anderson as yardsticks for their valuation, with both having joined Chelsea and Manchester City for huge amounts. PSG is also factoring in that Barcola is a back-to-back Champions League winner, had a strong World Cup and is still only 23.

The door is open to a sale though, with Luis Enrique clear that he only wants players committed to the club after Barcola decided against signing a new contract in the French capital. Liverpool is the only interested club named, with the Reds hoping to get the price down.

Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.

Liverpool.com says: Yep, that price is going to have to come WAY down. Liverpool has a lot of work still to do on its squad, not least in defense after Gomez's injury.

Spending nearly $200M on one position feels like far too big a leap to take, even if Barcola is a guarantee of quality. Either the price comes down, or Liverpool has to look elsewhere.

Vinicius Jr (Real Madrid)

Vinicius Jr was "offered to Liverpool", according to talkSPORT, as the Real Madrid star is linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

No engagement or talks took place with the Reds, with Liverpool opting not to pursue a transfer. The claim comes as Arsenal is said to be exploring a deal for the Brazilian.

Vinicius has just one year remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu, with the Gunners said to be prepared to open talks if given encouragement from the player. A move to Saudi Arabia could also be on the table, with Al-Ahli interested after proposing a five-year contract worth $1.1 billion last year.

Liverpool.com says: Vinicius just doesn't feel like a player Liverpool would sign, even if he has been offered. In fact, he doesn't really feel like an Arsenal signing either.

It would be quite the coup for the Gunners if they pull it off, but it's hard to see that happening. It does feel like a ploy to get a bumper new contract at Real.
