Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s interest in Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes once again.
Newcastle United are set for a ‘crucial moment’ as Premier League champions Arsenal continue their pursuit of Magpies captain Bruno Guimaraes.
The Gunners are keen to add the former Lyon star to their title-winning squad after initially showing an interest in the midfielder prior to his move to Newcastle in January 2022. Since then, Guimaraes has established himself as an integral figure within a Magpies side that has ended the club’s 70-year wait for major domestic silverware with a Carabao Cup final win against Liverpool and qualified for the Champions League on two separate occasions.

After representing Brazil in an underwhelming World Cup finals campaign, Guimaraes’ future at St James Park has become the subject of ongoing speculation - and United manager Eddie Howe has already admitted he was unsure of what could lie ahead for one of his key men.
Speaking after Saturday’s pre-season friendly draw at National League neighbours Gateshead, the Magpies boss said: I've spoken to him as I would do. Bruno, normally, is just a fantastic person. We've had some really good conversations, both before the World Cup, during the World Cup and after the World Cup. What we speak about obviously has to remain private. He's just a great player and a great person. Look, I don't know what's going to happen with Bruno's future. That's for other people to, one, speculate about, but also conversations that I'm not part of. We don't want to lose our best players. That's an obvious statement to make. Losing those big two (Gordon and Tonali) is painful for us and difficult. For me, it's been another challenging summer so far.

Italian transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has been a consistent voice throughout the Gunners pursuit of the Magpies captain and he has delivered his latest update by suggesting the reigning Premier League champions are ‘ready to go strong’ in their bid to sign the Brazil international. He has stressed Mikel Arteta views Guimaraes as ‘a top priority’ in the summer transfer window - but also suggests the next week will be ‘a crucial moment for negotiations’.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Don’t forget the Bruno Guimaraes story because Arsenal are expected to return to the table over the next week for Bruno Guimaraes. Arsenal want Bruno, Mikel Arteta considers Bruno a top priority. Arsenal are expected to be back in direct negotiations with Newcastle from next week. It’s going to be an important week of new contacts. Then if a deal can get done already next week or not, that depends on the negotiation of the two clubs.
“The player has agreed personal terms with Arsenal so Arsenal and Bruno Guimaraes have an agreement. Mikel Arteta is pushing to get Bruno Guimaraes because Mikel Arteta considers Bruno Guimaraes the perfect midfielder for the Arsenal project - but Bruno is now keen. Arsenal are ready, depends on the agreement with Newcastle. But Arsenal are not giving up, Arsenal are ready to go strong for Bruno Guimaraes. So it’s going to be a crucial moment for negotiations.”
