Liverpool are preparing for further “talks” over the signing of Paris Saint-Germain ace Bradley Barcola, according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Frenchman now firmly looks to be the Reds’ leading summer transfer target out wide, with constant reports linking him with a move to Anfield, including one from Fabrizio Romano on Sunday:
“Liverpool have been leading the race for Bradley Barcola since April – and they are working on the deal. Understand Barcola’s open to the move and gives priority to LFC project if they can get a deal done with PSG. Liverpool, waiting for PSG indications on price/details.”
Now, Plettenberg has provided a new update on the current situation, saying “talks” are planned for Monday, as Liverpool look to strike a high-profile deal:
“Liverpool are now set to do everything they can to sign Bradley Barcola before Deadline Day. Liverpool are aware of the player’s personal terms and do not expect any issues on that front if a transfer agreement with PSG can be reached. More talks are scheduled for Monday. Liverpool are considering submitting an opening bid soon. Barcola is open to leaving PSG this summer.”
A statement signing that Liverpool must get done
At this point, it would be a surprise if Barcola wasn’t a Liverpool player come the start of the new season, with everything pointing towards the move going through.
If it does, the PSG man can be a superb signing, with searing pace accompanying good end product, and none other than France superstar Kylian Mbappe lauding him recently:
“It was inevitable that he would reach the highest level, but he did so in his very first season in Paris. He’s really starting to establish himself with the national team. Bradley doesn’t talk much. You have to understand that. But once you do, you know he’s a great guy.”
Barcola isn’t yet a completely polished winger, with more consistency required in the final third and his all-round performances, but Andoni Iraola will no doubt believe he can take him to new heights.
All the ingredients are there for the 23-year-old to mature into an elite winger over time – he isn’t far off already – and he could help make up for the loss of the legendary Mohamed Salah.
