Liverpool are expected to make advances in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola this week, after the Frenchman made Anfield his priority.
According to widespread reports on Sunday, Barcola has now rejected the opportunity to sign a new contract at PSG and will seek an exit this summer.
Liverpool have been described as the 23-year-old’s priority, though there are contrasting claims over the price tag set for a player with two years left on his current deal.
With their interest known, movement is now expected in Liverpool’s push to sign Barcola this week, with the Mail‘s Lewis Steele acknowledging their pursuit.
Reporting on Sunday, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook wrote on X that “preliminary talks” had already taken place, with the likelihood now being that the two clubs will establish their stance when it comes to the finances involved.

PSG are claimed to value Barcola as high as €170 million (£145.3m), though various sources cite the price tag as anywhere from €120 million (£102.6m) to €150 million (£128.2m).
That is a major rise on the £75 million mooted when Liverpool held talks with the winger’s representatives only last summer, writes the Mail‘s Simon Jones.
Given Barcola’s contract situation and PSG’s willingness to sell, it is almost certain that Richard Hughes would look to drive the price down closer to that fee, but a compromise can be expected.
Last year saw Liverpool spend over £75 million on three players, with two of those breaking the £100 million mark: Hugo Ekitike (£79m), Florian Wirtz (£116m) and Alexander Isak (£125m) all signed.
While there is a sense that this summer will in no way replicate that record-breaking spend, it shows that Fenway Sports Group are prepared to sanction outlays that would previously be considered eye-watering.
With top target Yan Diomande now on course to join Real Madrid – after a failed €100 million offer from Liverpool and strong overtures from Paris – Barcola has emerged as the primary focus.
There are still question marks over exactly where the France international will fit in, given he is a natural left winger and Andoni Iraola‘s squad is desperately lacking on the opposite flank.
But Rio Ngumoha has already outlined the plan for him to split his minutes between the left and right wings this season, while new signing Victor Munoz is equally capable on either side.
Liverpool have admired Barcola for many years, dating back to his breakthrough at Lyon, and it appears as though a move to Anfield is now closer than ever.
