Arsenal officially announce nine new contracts this summer ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Academy scholarships represent a significant milestone for young players progressing through the ranks. Arsenal have announced their first-year scholar class for the 2026/27 season. Nine young Gunners have signed scholarship deals to represent the academy for the next two years. The group attended a special event at Emirates Stadium with their families to mark the occasion.
The new scholars are Hakeem Abubakar, Elyon Mbala, Daniel McCarron, Emerson Nwaneri, Jayden Oba, Theo Odaji-Ukueko, Angelinou Pedro, Charlie Purdy and Joshua Sesay. Head of Academy Coaching Luke Hobbs and Head of Academy Operations Will Oldham joined the celebrations alongside the players’ families.

Several of the group have already featured at under-18 level. Elyon Mbala made nine starts in the U18 Premier League despite still being 15, while Emerson Nwaneri scored a hat-trick against Chelsea under-16s and netted the winner in the Premier League U16 National Finals. Angelinou Pedro enjoyed a breakout campaign, featuring across five competitions including the UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2.
Daniel McCarron joins from Northern Irish side Dungannon Swifts after gaining senior experience and representing his country at under-17 level. Joshua Sesay, who arrived from Millwall in 2024, impressed with his versatility across the front line and contributed to the under-16 national tournament success.
The remaining players have risen through the ranks after joining the academy at a young age. Many have shown leadership, technical quality and the ability to perform in high-pressure youth matches. The scholarship deals provide a platform for further progress under the club’s development programme.
Arsenal continue to invest in their academy pathway with the aim of producing players capable of reaching the first team. Supporters will follow the progress of this latest group with interest as they begin the next stage of their journeys at the club.
