**West Ham United should make an ambitious swoop for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott this summer.**
Harvey Elliott was once the next big thing in English football, he still could be, but his career hasn’t progressed at all at Anfield over the past couple of years. He could do with a move to a different league, with more opportunities, and more importance..
Elliott joined Liverpool from boyhood club Fulham for just a £750,000 compensation fee as a 16 year old in 2019. They were ordered to pay an additional £4 million compensation in 2022 with a 20% sell-on-fee, an absolute bargain.
He came as England’s next best thing, but it hasn’t really worked out like that. Since being at Liverpool he’s played 149 games scoring 15 goals and provided 10 assists. Not bad at all, but he hasn’t lived up to the hype.
Last season he was on loan at Aston Villa and he had an absolute nightmare. Villa signed him on an initial loan with an obligation to buy at around £35 million once he had played a certain number of games.
However, it seemed like Emery didn’t really fancy him, so the club didn’t want to make it permanent. Therefore, he just barely played because they didn’t want him to reach the number of matches they had agreed or they would’ve had to sign him.
Personally I don’t think it was his fault, he, Villa and Liverpool were dealt a bad card with this loan deal, it needed to be successful for everyone for it to work out and it was far from that.
Elliott’s stock has probably never been lower than it is right now, Liverpool will want to sell but they wouldn’t get anywhere near what they hoped to get last summer, and I can’t imagine Elliott will have the same interest in him.
He probably could get a move to another Premier League club, but does he want to try rebuild his career at a struggling team? Right now he needs to show what he can do and play in an attacking team to get his flow back.
A move to Europe maybe France of Germany would make sense. But if he doesn’t want that, what about the Championship? There is a rare opportunity to move to a Championship club on Premier League wages at West Ham this summer.
If we offered a similar deal to Aston Villa, an initial loan, but if we’re promoted it becomes an obligation to buy could be an excellent deal for both parties.
He is exactly what West Ham need, we need to bring in some creativity, someone who can take a game by the scruff of the neck against a deep block, he can play as a 10, play on either wing.
It’s really ambitious, he’s definitely too good for the Championship, he proved that five years ago on loan at Blackburn, but it could be exactly what the 23-year-old needs to start the rejuvenation of his Premier League career, despite the Hammers in the second tier for (hopefully) one season.
