Liverpool forward eyes ‘fresh start’ under Iraola

**Federico Chiesa is hoping for a ‘fresh start’ at Liverpool under Andoni Iraola.**

Chiesa’s Anfield future has been clouded in uncertainty after a difficult second season during which he made only five starts and played 433 combined minutes.

The Italy international also made no secret of a desire to earn more regular first-team minutes and [recently warned he would consider a move away](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/liverpool-fc/65853-liverpool-misfit-set-for-andoni-iraola-future-talks/) to achieve it.

However Chiesa continues to be involved in the Reds’ pre-season preparations and scored as a substitute in their opening friendly win over Sunderland last weekend.

And the 28-year-old remains optimistic that Iraola’s fledging reign can provide a lifeline after a relatively tumultuous two seasons on Merseyside.

“The only conversations I had were about pressing and tactics,” said Chiesa.

“So I don’t know, it is difficult to say. It is always a fresh start at the beginning of the year. Maybe there have been too many fresh starts.

“But I don’t care, I am trying to do my best for this new manager. Last season under Arne Slot, I was \[also\] trying to do my best.

“Right now, at the moment, I am happy here at Liverpool. I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything.

“I am doing the best I can to have a chance here, and then we will see.

“At the minute, the only thing I am thinking about is Liverpool.”
