Tottenham target Savinho emerges on the radar of Serie A giants.
Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer focus is on strengthening their attack in the remaining weeks of the summer window, having already transformed their defence and midfield.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed following his team’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over FC Auckland that he now wants to complete the attacking positions, with another couple of ‘important’ players wanted on top of six summer deals already done. Adding a winger and No.9 are extremely important, as De Zerbi currently has the likes of Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Dominic Solanke to select from in attack.
It is an open secret that Tottenham have been negotiating with Manchester City for more than a month now for the signing of Savinho. The 22-year-old is a long-term target for the Lilywhites and looks set to take their transfer spending this summer to over £300m. Spurs were in talks to sign the Brazilian winger last summer, but ultimately failed to get the deal over the line.
AC Milan planning to hijack Tottenham’s move for Savinho
Tottenham appears to have come back with far more resoluteness this summer; however, they are facing a danger of a late hijack. According to an exclusive report from The Sun, AC Milan are preparing a loan offer featuring a mandatory buy-out clause around €50-55 million for Savinho. They view the Manchester City winger as the ideal replacement for Rafael Leao, who wants to leave San Siro this summer.
AC Milan’s entry in the race to sign Savinho should not bother Tottenham much. The Lilywhites have already agreed personal terms with the winger, who was in and out of the Man City XI last season. Spurs and Man City haven’t agreed on the Brazilian international’s valuation of around £65m, with negotiations having stalled in the last couple of weeks.
However, the report adds that Tottenham’s negotiations with City over Savinho are well advanced. They remain in the front of the queue for the player, with De Zerbi a big fan of Savinho and driving his pursuit for several weeks.
Spurs waiting for Man City green light on Savinho
Transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the hold-up on the Savinho deal is on City’s end, with the Sky Blues trying to bring a replacement. The versatile wide attacker, who is now in pre-season training with the Cityzens, is understood to be waiting for his employers’ green light to finalise the move to N17.
Savinho remains a key offensive target for Tottenham’s ongoing squad rebuild. The South American attacker would add dynamism, trickery, pace and variety to the Lilywhites’ attacking unit. The key factor in finalising the transfer now rests with the City bosses sanctioning his departure.
