Liverpool are reportedly one of several big clubs to have shown interest in signing Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, but the Blues have placed an outlandish price tag on his head.
The 2026 summer transfer market is one of the most absurd in terms of bloated valuations. Liverpool have already been priced out of moves to sign Yan Diomande, Adam Wharton and Alex Scott.
The £116m that Manchester City have agreed to pay for Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson has seen the entirety of Europe apply major markups to their initial valuations on top stars.
Liverpool themselves were going to sell Curtis Jones for a relatively low fee before telling Inter Milan to match the going rate for Premier League midfielders, leading to a deal collapsing.
Now, it would appear the bloated transfer market continues to spiral out of control with Chelsea placing a truly silly price tag on the head of Pedro Neto.
Chelsea value Neto at over £100m after observing PSG and RB Leipzig valuations for Bradley Barcola and Yan Diomande
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool are one of the clubs keen on signing Neto, but have unsurprisingly baulked at the £100m+ price tag Chelsea are demanding for his sale.
The report, penned by Kieran Gill, states: “Chelsea are not surprised by the reported interest in Pedro Neto, though would not allow their winger to leave on the cheap after noting the rising valuations of other wide men in this window.
“The Premier League club are not actively touting their Portuguese 26-year-old for sale, but Blues insiders are aware of the asking prices being issued elsewhere in Europe, and specifically for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola.
“Diomande and Barcola are both considered £100million-plus players by their respective clubs, and while Neto would struggle to fetch such a large fee, it does give Chelsea an idea of their own wide man’s worth. The Blues have not quoted a valuation on Neto as of yet.”
Neto is a fantastic player, but his five goals and six assists in the Premier League last season do not warrant such a massive transfer fee. Then there’s the ‘small‘ matter of his £200,000 per week contract.
