Gerard Pique thinks that Barcelona are still superior to Real Madrid and will start the new La Liga season as favorites to win the title.
Barcelona have won back-to-back league titles under Hansi Flick, while Real Madrid have gone trophyless for the last two campaigns.
Madrid are now in the midst of a summer spending spree but Pique feels that Barca are still the top team in Spain.
“Barça are still superior to Real Madrid. I think Barça, today and at the start of the league, is still superior. The fact of winning the last two leagues I think gives you a status and a credit to start as a favorite,” he told reporters.
“The players and the team are already adapted to this. The fact that there is stability, that Flick is in his third year and that the players have internalized the format and the model of play makes them start with an advantage.”
Madrid have already signed Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahim Konate and Denzel Dumfries and also expected to bring in Yan Diomande next.
