Chelsea’s pursuit of Brighton forward Danny Welbeck could lead to the Blues offloading either Liam Delap or Emmanuel Emegha, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that the club’s interest in the former Manchester United and Arsenal player will have a knock-on effect in terms of potential outgoings:
“It’s a serious chance, a serious possibility to see Danny Welbeck as new Chelsea striker in this summer transfer window, with some consequences because there are some players that Chelsea no longer consider untouchable.”
“For example, for Liam Delap, if there is a good proposal, Chelsea could be open to let him go. The player still wants to fight for his place at Chelsea, but Chelsea would open doors to an exit in this summer transfer window.”
“Emmanuel Emegha joined Chelsea this summer, but also for him, there is a possibility to go in case of a good proposal. So, there might be movement around these two strikers in the next weeks.”
Supporters on X have been debating whether Chelsea should be selling the two strikers:

Chelsea don’t need 6 strikers
With Joao Pedro, Nicolas Jackson, and Marc Guiu also part of the first-team squad, it stands to reason that the departure of more than one centre-forward would be sanctioned.
It is widely assumed that Guiu will be let go, but there is a possibility that BOTH Delap and Emegha could be offloaded if Welbeck arrives.

Why does Alonso want Welbeck?
There is a lack of experience in several key positions. Despite the abundance of strikers, not one of them is above 25 years of age.
Welbeck has a wealth of knowledge which he could impart to the rest of the squad. He made his senior debut all the way back in 2008, and he is still a very capable performer after 18 years as a pro.
