It is quite obvious why Chelsea have decided to make a move for Danny Welbeck in this transfer window.
The Blues went into the summer wanting to sign a couple of ready-made players to help their inexperienced squad.
At 35 and with 400 Premier League appearances to his name, Welbeck ticks that box.
For Chelsea fans who want to see more seasoned players added to their squad, they are likely to be on board with the Welbeck move. However, experience is not the only good thing about this potential signing.

The Brighton & Hove Albion striker has an impressive recent record against Chelsea. For example, last season, Welbeck scored in both of the Seagulls’ Premier League matches versus the Blues.
He even managed to bag a brace at Stamford Bridge as Brighton went on to win both games. According to Transfermarkt, Welbeck has scored seven goals in total against Chelsea after 27 encounters.
The former England international has been a real thorn in Chelsea’s side, but it looks like supporters will no longer have to worry about him.
Chelsea’s interest in Welbeck has progressed quickly, with everything now pointing towards the ex-Arsenal and Manchester United forward moving to the Bridge.

Joao Pedro is expected to remain Chelsea’s first-choice striker after a brilliant debut season in west London, but there is no reason why Welbeck cannot contribute in the 2026/27 campaign.
Despite being in his mid-30s, Welbeck has proven that he can still score goals at this level. Last term, the United academy product found the back of the net 13 times in 37 league outings.

Rival fans will laugh, but bringing in Welbeck makes a lot of sense. He would be an upgrade on the likes of Liam Delap and Marc Guiu, who struggled to step up when Pedro was absent.
However, if it is a choice between Welbeck and Nicolas Jackson, you would have to pick the latter.
