Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has commented on the Bruno Guimaraes situation.
Alan Pardew believes Bruno Guimaraes will no longer be the same player if he stays at Newcastle United.
Toon chiefs are braced for an opening offer from Arsenal. Until now, the saga has played out in public without the Gunners making an official approach.
It is the worst-kept secret in football that Mikel Arteta wants Guimaraes this summer. Guimaraes is currently enjoying an extended break following his World Cup commitments but will report to Newcastle training on Friday.
‘Love has gone’ - Alan Pardew
Speaking to talkSPORT, former Toon boss Pardew claimed Guimaraes will not be committed to the black-and-white cause if a move breaks down. He said: “Firstly, he’s a great player, there’s no doubt about that.
“And I would suggest, if you talked to a Newcastle fan, probably their favourite player. In terms of the character, rolling up his sleeves, digging them out of holes, scoring great goals, fantastic technique… all those attributes Newcastle fans love.
"It will be a massive loss for them. I think his love has gone. I can't see him staying there and being the same player, so I think it's going to be a question of as much money as possible. I think that's where the Newcastle board will sit."
Alan Pardew blasts financial rules
Pardew also took aim at the financial regulations that have held the Magpies back under Saudi-backed ownership. He added: “There's nothing wrong with the location and the training ground and the ground.
“There's nothing to stop them being champions of England. But hold on, they cannot be champions unless, in the next Premier League meeting, they change the rules. At the moment, the rules are just cast in iron that the top five or six clubs… you can't catch them.
“Aston Villa are proving that right now. They've had to get rid of Rogers. I mean, why would you sell Rogers? Why? So they have had to because (of) the rules. It's a problem. It holds you back and it's very, very difficult to undo it.”
