Leicester City have told West Ham to stump up £10m for Harry Souttar, according to journalist Alan Nixon.
Writing on his Patreon, The Sun reporter claimed that the centre-back’s asking price has “put off” the Hammers, as well as Stoke City and Sheffield United.
It is believed that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were exploring an initial loan deal for Souttar.
However, the eight-figure valuation will likely result in Director of Player Recruitment Nils Koppen moving on to other targets.
West Ham want to bring in a new centre-half
Jean-Clair Todibo is very unlikely to play for the club again, and there is an expectation that he will be sold or (at the very least) loaned out before the transfer window closes at the beginning of September.
With Axel Disasi having left at the end of last season following the completion of his six-month loan spell from Chelsea, it means Nuno is left with just two senior centre-backs – Konstantinos Mavropanos and Max Kilman.
Considering the sheer number of matches that the Irons will be playing this season, you have to think that Nuno would want two new additions in that position.
Souttar is by no means the only target
Last week, trusted insider ExWHUEmployee named five players, along with the Australian international, as possible candidates to strengthen the middle of defence.
A return for Disasi has been seriously explored, but the 28-year-old is said to be looking for a move away from England.
Cardiff City’s Dylan Lawlor, Souttar’s Leicester teammate Ben Nelson, Arsenal’s Jaden Dixon and Alverca’s Bastien Meupiyou are also under consideration. It is believed that more options are on the club’s shortlist beyond these names, but so far an agreement to recruit a new centre-back has proven elusive.
