Home Opinion/Features The five favourites to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham

Cristian Romero is set for an exit from Tottenham Hotspur this summer. The Spurs skipper is keen to quit North London, following the club’s disappointing Premier League campaign and failure to secure European football.

A number of Europe’s top teams are interested in the Argentine, but which sides are leading the race?

Cristian Romero next club latest odds:

Inter Milan – 8/15

Inter Milan have confirmed their interest in signing Romero, though a deal has been described as financially complex for the Serie A champions. Romero has experience of Italy after spells at Genoa, Juventus and Atalanta, and is likely to be receptive to a return. Inter are closing in on the signing of John Stones as a free agent as part of a defensive overhaul.

Chelsea – 9/4

Could Chelsea swoop for the Argentina international? Xabi Alonso has clearly told the Blues’ big-wigs that experience is required, after launching moves for Premier League veterans Jordan Henderson and Danny Welbeck. While those two would supplement a squad stacked with youth, Romero would be readymade to make an immediate impact, in a position that Chelsea lack top-end talent.

Barcelona – 9/2

Barcelona have been named among Romero’s suitors, as Hansi Flick looks for a partner to Pau Cubarsi. The Spanish champions expressed interest in Alessandro Bastoni earlier in the window and could turn to Romero, given Spurs’ willingness to negotiate.

Atletico Madrid – 6/1

Romero perhaps fits the brief of what Diego Simeone has long sought in his Atletico side. Combative quality, which often borders on the combustible. Watching him under his compatriot would be cinema.

Real Madrid – 12/1

Jose Mourinho has looked to the Premier League to strengthen this summer, with Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, and Marc Cucurella all heading to the Bernabeu. The arrival of Romero could complete an entire new backline for Los Blancos, with right-back Denzel Dumfries having also joined from Inter.
