Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa can only happen through a permanent transfer after Alejandro Garnacho moved to Villa Park on loan.
Fabrizio Romano says Unai Emery’s side retain an interest in the Chelsea striker, having tracked him since May.
TalkChelsea reports that Villa remain among Jackson’s possible destinations as Chelsea assess their crowded forward department.
However, Villa cannot borrow another Chelsea player while Garnacho’s temporary agreement remains active. Premier League clubs may register only one loan player from the same English club at any one time.
Any agreement for Jackson would therefore require Villa to negotiate a permanent fee.

Nicolas Jackson to Aston Villa requires permanent deal
Jackson and Garnacho were both discussed during the negotiations which took Morgan Rogers to Stamford Bridge for £117million.
Villa eventually selected Garnacho, who joined on loan with a conditional obligation to buy. Their decision closed the temporary route for Jackson but did not prevent a permanent transfer.
Chelsea’s possible move for Danny Welbeck could create further uncertainty around the Senegal international. Xabi Alonso already has João Pedro, Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha and Marc Guiu available in central attacking positions.
ReadChelsea recently reported that the club would consider striker departures if Welbeck arrives from Brighton. Jackson could also attract offers if Alonso decides he does not feature prominently in his plans.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich before returning to Chelsea. His pace and movement remain qualities which could appeal to Emery, who previously coached him at Villarreal.
Villa have funds available following Rogers’ departure, but no asking price or formal offer for Jackson has been reported.
