Chelsea have been busy in the last week – busy enough that we missed an overnight transfer story about a player joining the Blues.
Tom Bogert of the Athletic has reported that Benji Flowers is coming to join the Blues from FC Dallas. The catch? He’s just 15, and it will be 3 full years before he can make the switch.
Bogert reports that the winger will cost an initial fee of around £2.25m, with performance based add-ons in the deal potentially taking it to £10m. Crucially, those add-ons can be triggered by appearances for Dallas, giving them a strong incentive to start playing him when he’s ready.
Flowers could make senior debut before the end of this season

The piece goes on to add that Flowers was in London in the last few weeks completing the deal. The Blues think they’re getting “one of the best young talents in American soccer.”
The wonderkid made his debut in the MLS’s development league back in March, when he was just 14 years old. He’s expected to make his senior debut before the end of this season. The final fee for the deal would break the record for an American youth player, currently held by Cavan Sullivan, who is waiting to join Man City.
