ACCOR STADIUM, SYDNEY – Chelsea star Joao Pedro needed only half an hour on the pitch to show his quality in the Premier League side’s first match under Xabi Alonso.
Pedro scored a 10-minute hat-trick, with goals in the 80th, 86th and 90th minutes against Western Sydney Wanderers as the Brazilian striker proved the difference off the bench.

Having missed the cut for Brazil’s World Cup squad, the 24-year-old was in the mood in Sydney and looked a cut above against a Wanderers defence who struggled to deal with him throughout his time leading the line.
Between Pedro, young gun Estevao and Jamie Gittens, they gave the A-League side an absolute nightmare at the back, ensuring the visitors would escape with the victory.

The Wanderers actually led as late as the 78th minute, when teenager Awan Lual lived out a dream moment, stroking past Robert Sanchez after being teed up by Chelsea fan Jarrod Carluccio.
However, Alonso’s side lifted the tempo soon after and ran riot in the closing stages as Pedro scored three fairly simple goals to seal a 6-4 victory.
