It's claimed that Tottenham will want around $45 million for Djed Spence this summer, following his outstanding World Cup.
Eyebrows were raised when England's head coach, Thomas Tuchel, left out former Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and included Spence in his World Cup squad. The latter narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League last season, as Spurs needed to beat Everton on the final day of the campaign to secure their top-flight status.
Yet Tuchel's decision was justified, as Spence produced several superb performances for England en route to a third-placed finish. Since then, there's been plenty of speculation about Spence's future; one report even linked Liverpool with the defender.
But according to transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio, the only club seriously interested in Spence is Inter Milan. He also claims that Tottenham would want €40 million ($45.4 million) for the 25-year-old this summer — if the London club decides to cash in.
"It's a strange situation because before the World Cup, I don't know if Tottenham wanted to sell Djed Spence," Di Marzio told Wettfreunde.net.
"But they were open to hearing about eventual and potential offers, and the price was like €25 million ($28.4 million), plus €5 million ($5.7 million), so €30 million ($34.1 million).

"During and after the World Cup, there was one club that asked for him, and it was Inter Milan, and Inter Milan fought to get him for that price, but after the start of the contacts with Tottenham and the people involved in the deal, the price was really high.
"I think it's more than €40 million, and even De Zerbi is not sure if he wants to let Spence go because he's never said Spence has to leave. So I think that Spence can leave, but it will not be for the price that was there at the beginning of the World Cup.
"Inter Milan is one of the teams that wants him, but they have to arrive with an offer near €40 million or more, and I don't think that Inter Milan wants to spend all that money for a player in that position."
It's taken a while for Spence to prove himself at the highest level. The London-born star started his professional career at Championship side Middlesbrough before being sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest for the 2021/22 campaign.
He impressed during his time at Forest, winning promotion to the Premier League and earning a move to Tottenham four years ago. But it took him a while to break into Tottenham's starting XI, making just six appearances during his first two seasons in north London.

Spence spent time out on loan at Rennes in France and Genoa in Italy during those difficult first two years, as well as featuring for Leeds in the Championship. Yet he's asserted himself as a regular at Tottenham during the last two seasons, and there are few left doubting his quality after his performances for England at the World Cup in North America.
Liverpool.com says: Spence would be the ideal signing for Liverpool. He's capable of playing in either full-back position, with the Reds short in both roles. It could be a while until we see Conor Bradley again due to his knee injury, while there are still question marks over whether Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas are good enough to start for Liverpool. But would Tottenham realistically sell Spence to Liverpool? Perhaps, but not for $45 million. Spurs will want a lot more after his performances for England.
