Chelsea goalkeeper has left pre-season tour to join Strasbourg

Home›News›Chelsea goalkeeper has left pre-season tour to joi…

Filip Jorgensen transfer interest has intensified after the Chelsea goalkeeper left the club’s pre-season tour and returned to the United Kingdom.

Strasbourg want the Denmark international, while Coventry City have also made an approach.

Jorgensen travelled to Australia as part of Xabi Alonso’s squad but departed before Chelsea’s opening tour fixture against Western Sydney Wanderers.

talkSPORT reports that Strasbourg are currently interested in signing the 24-year-old. Coventry have also contacted Chelsea, although Carl Rushworth remains their preferred goalkeeping target.

No agreement or formal offer for Jorgensen has been reported. His return to England nevertheless suggests his future could be resolved before Chelsea complete their remaining pre-season fixtures.

Filip Jorgensen transfer interest creates Chelsea decision

Jorgensen made only five Premier League appearances last season and featured 12 times across all competitions. He has five years remaining on the contract signed after his £20.7million move from Villarreal in 2024.

Chelsea had originally included Jorgensen among four goalkeepers on tour. ReadChelsea covered the club’s pre-season squad numbers, with Robert Sanchez, Teddy Sharman-Lowe and Ted Curd also travelling.

Sanchez remains Alonso’s established senior option, while Mike Penders is due to join the group after receiving additional rest following Belgium’s World Cup campaign. Penders spent last season on loan at Strasbourg and is viewed as an important part of Chelsea’s long-term plans.

Jorgensen has made 36 Chelsea appearances and kept 11 clean sheets since joining the club. However, another season without regular league football may not suit the goalkeeper or Chelsea.

Filip Jorgensen transfer interest does not yet guarantee a departure. Strasbourg and Coventry must still agree terms with Chelsea, but leaving the tour represents the clearest indication yet that a summer move is possible.
