Liverpool have announced the entry into a new competition ahead of the 2026/27 season getting underway in August.

Liverpool’s continued growth across all levels of the club has taken another step forward, with fresh confirmation that the women’s side will be involved in a newly revamped domestic competition for the upcoming campaign.
As the club looks to build on recent progress and strengthen its presence in the women’s game, opportunities like this offer both exposure and a chance to compete for silverware.

Supporters have seen clear signs of ambition from within the club, with transfer business like the exciting signing of Mao Itamura from Feyenoord as well as Vivien Endermann from Wolfsburg on a free transfer.
But in another development, Liverpool FC Women are officially set to compete in the newly restructured Subway Women’s League Cup, which has been revamped ahead of the new season.
The competition will feature a refreshed format designed to increase competitiveness and provide more high-quality fixtures throughout the campaign.
The updated tournament structure is expected to include clubs from across the top tiers of English women’s football, offering Liverpool a platform to test themselves against some of the strongest sides in the country. It also presents a realistic opportunity for the Reds to make a deep run.
Liverpool will be among 23 teams involved, with participation limited to clubs from the Barclays Women’s Super League and WSL2 that are not competing in the Women’s Champions League.
The opening phase will see each side play six matches in a regionalised setup – three at home and three away – scheduled between late September and mid-December.
All of Liverpool’s fixtures set to take place during midweek slots.
Rather than traditional groups, all teams will be placed into a single league table, with the top eight progressing into the knockout rounds.
From there, the competition will shift into a straight elimination format, with quarter-finals pencilled in for January, semi-finals in February, and the final taking place in March. Teams will be seeded based on their league-phase performance.
Liverpool will discover their opponents for the opening stage on August 6.
