Liverpool have moved a step closer to signing Bradley Barcola after getting the player’s approval for the transfer. However, there’s still a long way to go before they strike a deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
Liverpool have been in the market for another attacking addition this summer, and Bradley Barcola has quickly become one of their leading targets.
Now, fresh information from French newspaper L’Equipe suggests the Reds have landed a huge boost. The winger has given his approval in principle to the move.
The report says the 23-year-old has decided he won’t extend his current contract with PSG, which runs until June 2028. That decision has given Liverpool the opening they were hoping for.
Barcola has already spoken to Iraola
According to L’Equipe, Bradley Barcola has spoken in recent days with several Liverpool officials. He has also spoken with manager Andoni Iraola.
Those talks appear to have gone exactly how Liverpool wanted. The France international has now given his agreement in principle to join the Premier League side. Moreover, he is hoping the move can happen.
The French newspaper is keen to point out there’s still no contractual agreement between Barcola and Liverpool. This remains the case despite reports from Italy claiming otherwise on Monday.
Instead, the player has simply made it clear he wants the transfer to happen if the two clubs can find common ground. So, the next stage is entirely in the hands of Liverpool and PSG.
PSG aren’t making it easy
L’Equipe explains Liverpool have already opened negotiations with the French champions.
PSG are now willing to let Barcola leave after previously resisting the idea. However, they aren’t planning to make things easy. They’re standing firm over their financial demands, and the gap between the two clubs’ valuations is still described as significant.
Liverpool will now have to find a way of bridging that gap if they want to get the deal over the line. But with the player’s approval now secured, the Reds have cleared one of the biggest obstacles in the deal.
Whether this breakthrough is enough to speed up negotiations remains to be seen, but L’Equipe believes everything now depends on whether the Reds can reach an agreement with PSG, with the two clubs still some way apart.
