It was an entertaining opening pre-season contest for the Blues, with plenty of goals and action to keep supporters engaged throughout, both in Sydney and watching from afar. Dastan Satpayev opened the scoring under the lights before the Wanderers responded to turn the game around and take the lead.
Dario Essugo restored parity with a smart finish, but the Sydney-based side edged back in front once again. Manager Xabi Alonso - taking charge of his first pre-season fixture as Blues boss - introduced some familiar faces from the bench with half an hour left, and the changes made an immediate impact as Joao Pedro combined with Jamie Gittens to draw us level, with the latter applying the finish.
The end-to-end contest continued as the Wanderers struck again to make it 4-3, but Joao Pedro took centre stage with a remarkable nine-minute hat-trick, completing our comeback and sealing a thrilling 6-4 victory for the Blues.
