The agent for Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko has explained why they decided to sign a new contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this summer.
Flashscore.de have a wide-ranging interview with the Everton defender’s agent, Vadim Shablii today. He discusses the defender’s recent contract renewal with the Blues.
Vitaliy Mykolenko signed a new deal with the Toffees this summer that could extend his stay on Merseyside to 2029.
The 27-year-old joined Everton in a €23.5m deal back in 2022 and has been a regular for the Blues since, making 158 appearances in all competitions to date.
He is likely to start next season as the starting left-back once again, with David Moyes continuing to show faith in the Ukrainian international since his return in January 2025.
And according to Shablii, that faith, for now and the future, was key to them deciding to sign a new deal with the club this summer.
“Contract negotiations in professional football are rarely simple, but in Vitalii’s case, there was a very strong foundation from the start,” he said.
“He has been playing at a high level in the Premier League for years, knows the environment in Liverpool inside out, and feels extremely comfortable at the club.
“For us, it was crucial that Everton remains fully committed to him and views him as a key pillar of their future project. That is why the contract extension was the only logical and right step for all parties involved.”

It seems, then, Everton have indicated that they don’t intend to be moving away from Vitality Mykolenko any time soon. That is certainly the sense from his agent here, anyway.
Whether that’s something Everton fans agree with is up for debate. They have often wanted something more than what the Ukrainian defender can offer, but David Moyes clearly thinks differently at this point.
With Adam Aznou starting strongly in pre-season, though, perhaps there will be an opportunity for change in the coming months.
