The agent of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones is “pushing for a move” away from the club in the summer transfer window, according to a worrying new claim.
The 25-year-old’s future at Anfield has been up in the air since the end of last season, with Inter Milan constantly mentioned as potential suitors for him.
That said, Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has made it very clear that he sees him as part of his plans moving forward, should he want to stay put:
“I rate Curtis very highly. For me he is a great, great player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing. It’s very important that he’s Scouse, that he’s from here. I also like the personality. From the outside, at least, he looks like a player with good character, and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time.”
Now, according to a respected source on X, Jones’ agent would like the midfielder to move away this summer, with his future still hanging in the balance:
“Curtis Jones is in a tough spot right now. He wants to stay at Liverpool, but the contract offer needs to improve. His agent is pushing for a move, looking out for Curtis’s best interests. Whatever happens, it’s clear that Curtis deserves more respect than what’s currently being offered.”
Why Liverpool must persuade Curtis Jones to stay
Jones isn’t necessarily a definite starter for Liverpool, which is likely to be part of the reason why he is considering a move away, but he is an important figure who they need to keep.
As Iraola mentions, he is a local player who knows the club inside out, which is vital, and he is also a top-level footballer, with Arne Slot lauding him as “conmplete” back in 2024.
Hopefully, Iraola does enough to show Jones that staying at Liverpool is the best outcome, with eye-catching attack-minded football the order of the day.
It will be understandable if he still decides he wants a fresh challenge, but to lose a homegrown player with 228 appearances at the age of just 25 would be a big blow.
Iraola is sure to like Jones’ press-resistance, intelligence and versatility, and we could be about to see his best years, which is why Liverpool must do all they can to tie him down.
