At just 23, Barcola has established himself as one of Ligue 1’s most exciting attacking talents, and his current deal running until 2028 gives PSG urgency to iron out a solution.

For Liverpool, who have long been linked with a marquee addition to their forward line, Barcola remains arguably the most tantalising name on their radar.

The French international rejected a contract extension offer from the European champions upon returning from the World Cup.

Now L’Equipe journalist Loïc Tanzi has reported that although he has “agreed in principle” to join the Anfield club – there is not yet agreement on his personal terms:

“Paris striker Bradley Barcola, who has spoken with Liverpool coach Andoni Iraola, has agreed in principle to join the club from the north of England. The two clubs are exchanging but are still far from a contractual agreement.”

“However, this does not translate into a contractual agreement between the former Lyon player and Liverpool.”

It is added that The French winger has recently held talks with Liverpool officials and head coach Andoni Iraola. It seems those talks were convincing enough for the 23-year-old now to give assurances to the Reds that he wants to make the move this summer.

Tanzi also explains that Liverpool have now opened negotiations with PSG, who are willing to sell but are standing firm on their valuation. At this stage, there is still a significant gap between the two clubs.

Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano cautioned the fanbase that a quick resolution to the transfer saga would likely not be the case, and that patience will have to be exercised.

One of the main hurdles continues to be PSG’s asking price, which various reports place between £140m and £170m. Given the scale of that fee, it’s no surprise negotiations are progressing cautiously.

Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola has already confirmed Liverpool are actively pursuing a new winger, acknowledging the need to strengthen in wide areas.
