Newcastle Have ‘Reopened’ Talks To Sign Chelsea Forward With His Future Expected To Be Resolved This Week

Newcastle United are among the teams pursuing Chelsea striker Liam Delap, according to reports.
The Magpies lost out to the Blues for the 23-year-old last summer, but the forward is back on the market just a year after his transfer to Stamford Bridge.
TEAMtalk claim that Eddie Howe’s side have “reopened” dialogue with Delap, along with Leeds, but neither is currently regarded as the favourites to sign him.
It is believed Everton are pushing the hardest to secure the England Under 21 international’s signature, with manager David Moyes having given assurances about first-team football.
Why has Delap been made available for transfer?
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has FIVE strikers at his disposal, including Delap. Joao Pedro, Nicolas Jackson, Emmanuel Emegha and Marc Guiu are also available.
A sixth forward could soon arrive at the London club, with talks being held with Brighton for veteran Danny Welbeck.
Delap also struggled for form in his first season with the Blues, finding the back of the net just twice, and that has likely resulted in Alonso’s side being more open to letting him go.

Chelsea want the Newcastle target’s future resolved ASAP
TEAMtalk report that we may discover Delap’s next club in the very near future. There is said to be reluctance to let negotiations drag on until the end of the transfer window, and the Blues are hopeful for a resolution within the next week.
It is up for debate whether that is a realistic timeframe, as there is no guarantee that the Magpies or any other interested team are willing to match their asking price.
They want to make a profit on the £30m they paid Ipswich for Delap last year, so we shall see if any club will get close to their valuation.
