Liverpool’s last 12 away kits ranked – Ecru classics to psychedelic misstep

Liverpool have seen more creative freedom unleashed with their away kits over the last 12 years, resulting in a mix of hits and misses.

As Liverpool’s primary colour is red, there is only so much expression the home kit can display, which is at odds with colour palettes available for the away and third strips.

Over the last 12 years, Liverpool have had yellow, black, purple, blue, white, and ecru away kits, all held with varying degrees of fondness by supporters.

After previously ranking recent home kits, we now turn our attention to the offerings from Warrior, New Balance, Nike and Adidas from 2014/15.

12. 2022/23 – Nike

This psychedelic, multi-colored marbled shirt makes you dizzy just looking at it!

It was bold from Nike, but you do wonder who signed off on it? And as it turns out, it was incredibly unlucky with just one win, one draw and four defeats in it.

Easily the worst on this list.

11. 2023/24 – Nike

The first word that came to mind at the time and still does when you see it is Minecraft.

Nike were attempting to draw inspiration from the 1990s green and white quarter pattern, but the modernised design left a lot to be desired and did not hit the mark.

It is disjointed and looks like someone enjoyed layering boxes together and throwing it on the shirt.

10. 2020/21 – Nike

It must be said this turquoise kit is significantly improved on the two that came before it on this list, but still ranks low due to its divisive shade.

It was unique in that every shirt’s pattern was slightly different, but it only just makes the cut into the top 10.

9. 2015/16 – New Balance

If you are talking classic Liverpool away looks, this is it; white with red detailing and no absurd or over-the-top addition.

It’s clean and simple, but that is perhaps why it does not beat others on this list, as the detailing is minimal compared to what is still to come.

It does make you think of Jurgen Klopp‘s first season in charge, though, and that is never a bad thing.

8. 2017/18 – New Balance

A significantly improved attempt at the green and white quarter pattern compared to Nike, with the pinstripes purposefully and intentionally placed for a clean look.

The black detailing makes the logos pop, but otherwise this is just one that leaves you shrugging your shoulders and feeling indifferent.

7. 2019/20 – New Balance

This kit is perhaps influenced by the success Liverpool achieved in 2019/20, but you can’t help but like the simple white and navy combination with pops of red.

It is timeless in that respect, and sits comfortably as a mid-ranked kit. New Balance, as it turns out, knew how to make away kits for the Reds!

6. 2018/19 – New Balance

It is certainly not a traditional club colour, and some may argue that it is too high on this list. However, while it is bright, the purple is not as offensive as some first thought it would be.

The orange details were bold, but it fit with what Klopp was building at the time.

And another plus-point was the players could at least clearly identify one another on the pitch without having to look too closely!

5. 2024/25 – Nike

This may be a personal preference, but black away kits almost always hit the right notes.

They are sleek, simple, and any colour chosen to accompany it always pops – in this case it was turquoise and white.

And who can forget Darwin Nunez‘s contributions in this strip!

4. 2025/26 – Adidas

Adidas did well to combine historical elements into their first away kit for Liverpool after 13 years, combining the ecru colourway with a V-neck collar and throwback club badge.

Beyond that, it remained relatively understated, and that is where its success lies, having allowed those design choices to carry this shirt.

The pops of red were also the perfect choice to tie it all together!

3. 2014/15 – Warrior

Talk about bright and bold!

There will be many who did not find too much beauty in Warrior’s final away kit at the time, but more than 10 years on from its release, you cannot help but be fond of it.

Yellow has been one of the club’s core change strip colours since the late ’70s and early ’80s, and this pays a huge nod to that, and thus deserves a place in the top three.

It could be controversial, but the passage of time has been kind to it.

2. 2016/17 – New Balance

You had to know this was coming after the only other black kit landed in the No. 5 spot!

This one ranks in second, however, due to the use of red and silver embellishments, which New Balance knew how to do well.

It looked effortlessly sharp on the pitch, and Sadio Mane instantly elevated its standing with that stunning goal at the Emirates to start his Liverpool career.

Few, if any, would argue with this being in the No. 1 spot!

An ecru/cream kit is always a winning look – who doesn’t love a bit of nostalgia? Pair that base with the smart polo collar and pops of red and teal, and you’ve got an instant classic

You immediately think of Mo Salah‘s hat-trick at Old Trafford with this kit, and as we know, memories do elevate how we think and see them!
