Xabi Alonso has declined to say whether a Dastan Satpayev loan will follow Chelsea’s pre-season tour. The 17-year-old strengthened his case for a senior role by scoring during Tuesday’s 6-4 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

Satpayev opened the scoring after six minutes at Accor Stadium. Ryan Kavuma-McQueen played him into the penalty area before the forward moved beyond his defender and finished firmly. ReadChelsea’s match report highlighted his direct running and composed finish.

Alonso was asked after the match whether Satpayev could remain with the first-team squad rather than leave on loan. The Chelsea head coach offered no commitment.

“There are many decisions to be taken during this pre-season,” Alonso said, in comments reported by Talk Chelsea.

Alonso already knew the forward from his time with Kairat Almaty. He described Satpayev as a different type of attacker and praised his movement from wide positions into central areas.

Satpayev started on the left of Chelsea’s attack against Western Sydney. His willingness to attack the space between full-back and centre-back provided an early outlet for a young starting side.

Alonso also dismissed concerns over whether the teenager could cope physically with senior football. He described Satpayev as “really strong, really quick” and suggested supporters would be impressed by his qualities.

Chelsea still have several senior players to reintegrate after the World Cup. Further additions or departures could also influence the available pathway before the Premier League season begins.

No Dastan Satpayev loan has been confirmed. His minutes during the remainder of the tour should provide a clearer indication of Alonso’s immediate plans.
