Real Madrid again... Liverpool deal to sign£127m superstar just got more complicated

Real Madrid could once again negatively impact Liverpool’s summer transfer plans after snatching Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate last summer.

The Reds are suffering a bit this summer in terms of the number of available targets that suit their needs, with the 2026 summer transfer window easily one of the worst in terms of available quality.

It’s not that football is suffering from a dearth of talent, but rather that many of the players that would suit Liverpool and what they’re building are either happy where they are, unable to move or too expensive to be practical.

Vinicius Junior is a prime example. Reports state that the Brazilian could be on the move soon after Jose Mourinho was named new manager of Los Blancos, but the money involved simply does not make sense. Between Madrid’s reported €160m (£137m) asking price, his €700k/week wages (£600k/week) and the massive agent fees that Roc Nation would undoubtedly demand, it’s a non-starter.

Liverpool need a superstar signing to replace Mohamed Salah’s talismanic impact on the wing and Bradley Barcola has become their No.1 target in that regard after the Reds pulled out of the Yan Diomande race.

Now, however, it seems as though Diomande and Real Madrid may have another negative impact on Liverpool’s transfer plans.

Real Madrid hunt for Diomande signing could negatively impact Liverpool’s pursuit of Barcola

Until recently, it appeared that PSG’s interest in Diomande would open ajar the door for Liverpool to sign Barcola. It seemed the most simple transfer domino fall in recent seasons, but with Madrid now favourites to sign Diomande, that might get more complicated.

PSG were rumoured to be keen on signing Diomande and Maghnes Akliouche, but may be left with just the latter and this may have a bearing on their willingness to sell Barcola.

Sky Germany reported Phillip Hinze reports on X: “YanDiomande also trained in Leipzig today. Meanwhile, negotiations between RealMadrid and RB Leipzig are continuing.

“As soon as the two clubs reach an agreement,Diomande will be given permission to complete his move to RealMadrid. Until then, the Ivorian will continue training in Leipzig. At this point, it all depends on the clubs.”

The closer Madrid get to signing Diomande and removing him from PSG’s realm of possibilities this summer, the more complicated Liverpool’s hopes of signing Barcola may get.
