Kalvin Phillips is finalising a loan move to Sheffield United ahead of the new season as he hopes to get his career back on track.
The Manchester City midfielder has endured a torrid time since signing for the Blues in a £42million move from Leeds United in 2022.
He has no future at the Etihad but still has two years to run on the six-year contract he signed when he made the move to Manchester.
Phillips' latest attempt to kickstart his career will see him link up with the Championship Blades having spent time on loan at Bramall Lane last season. Chris Wilder is keen to bring the 30-year-old back and the deal is expected to go through in the coming days.
Phillips, who has 31 England caps, made just three appearances for Sheffield United last term and was sent off on his last appearance for the club in a Steel City derby win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The England international made one seven-minute substitute appearance for City last season when he came off the bench in the Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town in September.
He has made just two Premier League starts since joining City and has spent time on loan at West Ham and Ipswich in a bid to try and secure regular football.
Phillips has been left out of City's pre-season tour squad for three games in Asia so he can wrap up a return to Yorkshire. Sheffield United will be among the favourites for promotion from the Championship as they aim to return to the top-flight.
