Como youngster Jacobo Ramon is on Arsenal’s shortlist of defensive targets, according to the Athletic.
The Gunners are said to be keen on strengthening their centre-back options this summer. William Saliba’s injury has only heightened the need to do so.
Arsenal have been linked with England international John Stones, but he is now on the verge of joining Inter Milan. Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa is also on their radar.
The Athletic now claim that the north London club have set their sights on Ramon and have been monitoring his progress in Serie A. Chelsea are interested in the Como ace too.
Ramon enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Serie A outfit last term, helping them secure UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time in their history.
The 21-year-old started 30 league games as Cesc Fabregas’ side secured a fourth-place finish.
Ramon is a ball-playing centre-back and can contribute in the final third. He ranked third for accurate passes per game and scored two goals in Serie A last season.
The Real Madrid academy graduate is also known for his speed. Only five Arsenal players recorded a higher top speed in the league.
He possesses strong aerial prowess, excellent positioning and solid tackling ability as well.
However, there are questions surrounding his discipline. He received 11 yellow cards, the second-highest total in Serie A.
Ramon would be a strong addition to Arsenal if they are looking to sign a promising centre-back. His athleticism and composure on the ball make him a natural fit for Mikel Arteta’s side.
That said, a move for Ramon could be complicated for the Gunners, with Madrid owning 50 percent of his economic rights.
The Spanish giants also included buy-back clauses in the deal that took the Spaniard to Como last summer.
