Filip Jörgensen leaves preseason tour, set to join RC Strasbourg from Chelsea — reports

Chelsea Pre-Season Tour to Australia

Chelsea Pre-Season Tour to Australia

Filip Jörgensen flew out with the rest the squad to Australia for the start of our preseason tour, but just a few days later, he’s already heading back to London to finalize a move to RC Strasbourg. It’s unclear at this time if the 24-year-old goalkeeper is moving to our sister club permanently or just on loan, but that’s for BlueCo to sort out.

Jörgensen has been the backup to Robert Sánchez for the last two seasons, but outside of our UEFA Conference League campaign, he’s failed to stake his claim for anything more beyond that — despite a fair few opportunities. His horror-show in a surprise start against PSG in the Champions League last season signaled not only his end in a Chelsea shirt (at least for now), but the end of Liam Rosenior’s short-lived tenure as head coach.

With Jörgensen gone, Mike Penders looks set to fulfill the backup and challenger role to Sánchez. Penders was at RCSA last season, and did quite well … though he’s also still quite young at 20 and perhaps would be best served by more regular playing time.

Jörgensen arrival in Strasbourg probably means that Gaga Slonina will not be going there. Slonina was on trial from Chelsea and featured in their preseason friendly against Sporting CP that other day, giving up five (5) goals in the second half (including this gorgeous strike to Jesse Derry).
