Nevertheless, negotiations are said to have 'cooled' during the World Cup, with Palmeiras seemingly having altered their position. The club are now understood to have resolved to retain the player and promote him into the senior squad.
Should they proceed with that approach, they believe they will be able to command a fee of €50 million (£42.8m) in subsequent transfer windows. Conceicao is already receiving guidance from the club's manager and the established players.
United have made concerted efforts to recruit promising talent in recent windows. Ayden Heaven arrived from Arsenal in 2025.

United have also secured deals for Tynan Thompson and goalkeeper Kit Margetson this summer, with a focus on nurturing young players for the long term. United are reportedly eager to bolster their attacking options during the summer transfer window. Rasmus Hojlund's departure has been confirmed, while Joshua Zirkzee is anticipated to follow suit before the window closes.
The club have been overhauling their midfield options, having splashed a combined £85 million on securing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
United are additionally pursuing a potential third midfield signing, with several names linked to the club, including Aurelien Tchoumeni, Alex Scott and Carlos Baleba. The club have further strengthened their goalkeeping ranks by bringing in back-up stopper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
