His inclusion is another positive sign for the defender, who is looking to earn a return to Premier League football ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Crystal Palace have been assessing Tomiyasu’s fitness and condition throughout pre-season after the defender became available on a free transfer earlier this summer.

The Eagles are believed to be considering defensive reinforcements before the transfer window closes, and Tomiyasu’s versatility has made him an attractive option.
Capable of playing at right-back, left-back and centre-back, the Japan international has built a reputation as a reliable and intelligent defender during his time in European football.
His experience in both Serie A and the Premier League, combined with his ability to play in multiple positions, offers Palace an experienced option without requiring a transfer fee.
The club have not yet made a final decision over offering the defender a contract, but involving him in a pre-season fixture represents an important stage in their assessment.

Minutes against Lens will allow Palace to evaluate Tomiyasu’s match sharpness in a competitive environment after several weeks on the training pitch.
Should he impress, it would strengthen his chances of securing a deal before the start of the new season.
Palace have already been active in the transfer market this summer and continue to look for opportunities to strengthen key areas of the squad, particularly with players who can add quality and depth.
For Tomiyasu, the trial represents an opportunity to prove he is ready to compete at Premier League level once again after becoming a free agent.
While no agreement has been reached at this stage, Crystal Palace’s decision to include him in the matchday squad suggests the club remain seriously interested in completing a deal if his performances continue to impress during pre-season.
