Arsenal are in advanced talks with Newcastle United over the potential transfer of Bruno Guimarães to the Emirates Stadium this summer, according to talkSPORT.
Guimarães has developed into one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders since his 2022 transfer from Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.
Across the past four and a half seasons, the Brazilian has amassed 195 appearances for Newcastle United, registering 63 goal contributions, including 17 in the recently concluded campaign, while playing a pivotal role in the club’s revival.
He’s also become a mainstay of the Brazil national team, featuring prominently under Carlo Ancelotti at the recent World Cup before their round-of-16 exit at the hands of Norway.
Boasting extensive experience at both club and international levels, alongside exceptional technical ability and natural leadership, the 28-year-old possesses all the qualities needed to enhance any team with ambitions of competing for major honours.
It’s no surprise Arsenal have been heavily linked with him, with reports in recent weeks via Arsenal Station revealing that the Premier League champions have held talks with Guimarães’ camp to discuss his potential transfer.
Arsenal are now stepping up efforts to get the deal over the line as talkSPORT, in a new update, reports that the Gunners are in advanced talks with Newcastle over Guimarães’ move to the Emirates this summer.
Despite denial from the Magpies over any formal contact with Arsenal, the report adds that the deal is progressing and there’s a verbal agreement on a fee around £75m.
Advanced talks
The Gunners have made the 28-year-old their priority target for the summer and are hoping to formalise his transfer after agreeing personal terms with him, as per the report.
There are several factors that logically and statistically highlight why Guimarães would be a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s side.
One of his standout qualities is his consistency and availability. Since completing his first full Premier League campaign, he has played more than 85% of the available league minutes, placing him among the league’s most reliable performers while underlining an impressive injury record that suggests he can maintain that level over the long term.
His distribution is equally outstanding, and it’s no surprise Newcastle’s boss Eddie Howe described him as‘world class’. During the most recent Premier League season, Guimarães ranked among the top five players for line-breaking passes (46) and through balls (21).
With Guimarães currently on holiday, it will be interesting to see whether he reports for pre-season in north London or on Tyneside as talks between Arsenal and Newcastle continue to progress.
