Liverpool are aiming to fine-tune their squad as Andoni Iraola continues to get a closer look at his players in pre-season.
The Spaniard has called up a lot of youngsters for their pre-season tour to the USA, with a bunch of senior players returning late after their 2026 FIFA World Cup commitments.
Midfield remains an area of concern, especially with Curtis Jones linked with a move to Inter Milan.
And now, the Reds have officially confirmed that Tommy Pilling has sealed a permanent transfer away from the club.
Tommy Pilling swaps Liverpool for MFK Zemplin Michalovce
Pilling didn’t make his competitive debut for the Reds but was at the club since the age of five as he steadily rose through the ranks.
He featured once under Arne Slot in pre-season last year and was named on the bench for two Carabao Cup games under the Dutchman.
And now, Pilling has made the surprise decision to move to Slovakia, sealing a move to MFK Zemplin Michalovce permanently.
“Liverpool midfielder Tommy Pilling has completed a permanent transfer to MFK Zemplin Michalovce, subject to international clearance,” confirmed the Reds on their official website.
“The 21-year-old moves to the Slovakian top-flight side having been with the Reds since the age of five.
“A versatile player, Pilling rose through the ranks at the club’s Academy to represent the U18s and then U21s frequently in recent seasons.

“His progress continued with an appearance as a substitute when Liverpool hosted Athletic Club in a pre-season friendly in August 2025.
“He was then named on the bench for the senior team for two League Cup ties at Anfield last season.
“Everybody at LFC wishes Tommy the best of luck for the future.”
Pilling follows Amara Nallo out of the club, with the young defender recently sealing a loan move to HJK.
Interestingly, Liverpool have allowed Pilling to move on without commanding a transfer fee, instead retaining a sell-on clause and adding bonuses built into the agreement, presumably based on appearances.
