Liverpool are preparing an opening bid for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, though their initial valuation is well short of the reported asking price.
Barcola is eager to join Liverpool this summer after turning down the offer of a new contract at PSG, with two years left on his current deal.
Preliminary talks have already taken place, with conflicting reports in France on Tuesday afternoon over an agreement in principle with the 23-year-old.
While suggestions a contract has already been agreed are seemingly wide of the mark, talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook reports that Liverpool are set to table their opening bid.
Liverpool are said to value Barcola at £80 million, having been quoted a price of around £75 million when exploring a move last summer.

Whether that is the fee they will offer at this stage remains to be seen, but PSG are known to have set a price tag of €170 million (£145.6m) for their No. 29.
That highlights the significant gulf in valuations from the two clubs, with negotiations over a deal likely to be protracted as the Ligue 1 champions look to maximise on one of their most sellable assets.
It is maintained that Liverpool have “no plans to overpay, even in an inflated market,” with a number of alternatives under consideration.
Those include Brighton‘s Yankuba Minteh, Koln’s Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, the latter of whom has seen a transfer request denied this week, according to L’Equipe.
The i Paper‘s David Lynch writes that Barcola is “just as sold on the idea of a move to Merseyside” as Liverpool are on signing him, due to “frustrations with his role at PSG.”
The France international, who scored three goals and assisted one in eight games at the World Cup, was on the bench for PSG’s back-to-back Champions League final victories and is not a first-choice starter under Luis Enrique.
He would be guaranteed that role with Andoni Iraola‘s Liverpool, though it is clear that for a transfer to be agreed, PSG will need to lower their asking price.

PSG’s current valuation is claimed to be informed by moves for Elliot Anderson to Man City (£116m) and Morgan Rogers to Chelsea (£117m) already this summer.
But with PSG actively seeking new faces in attack – albeit spurned by Yan Diomande, who is heading to Real Madrid – their hand may be weakened, particularly as Barcola’s market value is considerably lower.
The CIES Football Observatory value Barcola at £85 million, while he is listed for £54 million on FotMob and €90 million (£77m) by Transfermarkt.
