Opportunities can sometimes present themselves for young players in unusual circumstances and Arsenal prospects Louie Copley and Theo Julienne could find themselves benefitting from such a situation.
Arsenal travelled to Spain for their pre-season training camp with many players missing due to their involvement in the World Cup.
Ben White and Jurrien Timber both travelled but neither player is at peak sharpness due to injury.
White is back training with the team and it remain to be seen whether he will be able to play a part against Girona on Saturday, while Timber has been restricted to gym work so far.
With minutes having to be managed in any case during pre-season it seems likely that a youngster will get a chance at right-back for at least part of the game against Girona, especially as Cristhian Mosquera and Marli Salmon, who can play there, will probably be needed at centre-back.
In the behind closed doors friendly against MK Dons last weekend Mikel Arteta elected to start Copley at right-back with Julienne coming on as a substitute.
Both players are mainly midfielders, although Julienne has far more experience than Copley of playing at right-back.
The latter, however, is slightly older at the age of 19 and has a very good understanding of the game.
Both players are likely to appeal to Arteta given that they are very professional and are unselfish in terms of the work that they do for the team.
It will be intriguing to see if Copley and Julienne get minutes at right-back against Girona and even more so if they are considered to play there later in pre-season and perhaps even in cup competitions when the real action gets underway.
